BossaNova Media from England, a company created five years ago and which in the last year has expanded its Sales team with the addition of six more people, brought to Mipcom the message for its Latam clients that they are ready to do business in each territory individually.
“Now that we have a larger sales team, my message is that BossaNova is open to doing business in each territory individually. We have completed many operations with pan-regional platforms in the region, but I would love to establish contact with channels and broadcasters from each of the Latin American countries,” Alex Lindsay, Sales Manager for Latin America, Iberia, Canada and Asia at BossaNova Media, told PRODU.
“BossaNova has done an amazing job helping producers finance projects and bring together partners for pre-sales. We’ve been really focused on that and now we want to make sure we’re exploring all the possibilities. We have connections in virtually every territory and country. That’s why we’ve expanded the sales team,” Lindsay explained.
He indicated that in Latam until now they have focused a lot on pan-regional pay TV. “We have numerous exclusive access documentaries that address police issues, particularly border control. Our most successful franchise is Border Force USAproduced by Stampedea British company that has access to the US Department of Homeland Security. We have verified that this franchise has been widely accepted among pan-regional pay TV buyers,” he said.
He added that its derivatives have worked very well, such as Airport Securitywhich they sold to Discovery Latam. The content has also been sold locally. “Our New Zealand version, Border Patrolset in New Zealand, was licensed to a free-to-air TV signal in Brazil.” He indicated that this has been the most popular genre, although he believes that part of its success is due to the fact that it works very well for pay TV channels such as Discovery. “We also observe this trend in other international markets.”
DOCUMENTARIES AND POLICE CONTENT
Lindsay mentioned that they offer content from their main genres: premium historical documentaries, exclusive access productions and police content, known in the industry as blue-light programming.
“He true crime It is also a very popular genre for us. In addition, we are incorporating more and more lifestyle and travel content. So we are available to buyers interested in those categories,” he indicated.
He added that BossaNova is a distributor for the “era of aquatic missions (Aqua Missions“)”. He clarified that they work with producers to help them develop their projects. “Every year we organize Development Day in London, where producers present their ideas to TV channels and receive comments from broadcasters and acquisitions managers. “We use those returns to guide our project financing strategy.”
OBJECTIVE IN LATAM IS TO DIVERSIFY THE OFFER
Linday stressed that they want to make sure they are in contact with all buyers and not just closing pan-regional deals. “We also want to establish local agreements, which help our producers obtain remuneration for their projects. Until now, we have had a very strong focus on a single genre in Latin America: exclusive access police content, known as blue-light programming. I would love to diversify the content we offer in the region, so that it is not only the producers of this type of programs who see their projects reach Latin America,” he expressed.
The executive wants the producers of her historical content, travel programs and lifestyle formats to also be able to see a license for Latin America in their project reports and think: “My God, how incredible! My content reached the other side of the planet!”
