Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty met with Sultan bin Abdulrahman Al-Marshad, Chief Executive Officer of the Saudi Fund for Development, in Cairo to review joint development initiatives, infrastructure funding, and regional stability.

During high-level talks in Cairo, Egypt praised the Saudi Fund for Development for its pivotal role in financing vital domestic infrastructure projects and supporting micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises.

Abdelatty said that concessional financing mechanisms used to support Egyptian entrepreneurs are crucial for driving job creation and ensuring long-term economic resilience across the country.

The two leaders discussed geopolitical and economic pressures currently affecting developing nations, global supply chains, and international borrowing costs.

According to Egypt Today, “Abdelatty emphasized the importance of flexible financing instruments from Arab development institutions to safeguard regional economic stability.”

The economic talks coincided with heightened security concerns in the Gulf, where Saudi Arabia faces recurring attacks from Iran-backed Houthi rebels.

While Saudi Arabia sought direct military defense assistance from key allies, Egypt opted to support the kingdom through naval surveillance and maritime defense initiatives in the Red Sea rather than placing boots on the ground in Yemen.

During his meeting with the Saudi delegation, Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s full solidarity with Saudi Arabia against ongoing regional security threats.

As reported by Business Insider Africa, defense analyst Andreas Krieg told Al Jazeera that Cairo has “a very strong interest in substantive cooperation with Saudi Arabia on Red Sea security,” but clarified that “the Egyptian preference will be to defend the maritime system without becoming responsible for Yemen“.
