Adani Group’s Dhamra Port created history, becoming the country’s first multi-cargo port to run on 100% green energy. Adani Group APSEZ Dhamra Port becomes India’s first private multicargo port to run fully on renewable power

Adani Group’s Dhamra Port has achieved a big record by using renewable energy. Dhamra Port is now running entirely on renewable power. According to Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ), from August 2026, the entire electricity consumption of the port is being met from renewable energy sources. With this, Dhamra has become the first private multi-cargo port in the country, which is running completely on green energy.

Consumption more than 90 lakh units every month

More than 90 lakh units of electricity is required every month at Dhamra Port. Now its entire electricity is coming from renewable sources. At current operation, the port’s annual renewable electricity consumption exceeds 108 gigawatt-hours (GWh).

This change, implemented from August 2026, is said to be part of APSEZ’s long-term net-zero target. According to the company, this will reduce emissions associated with purchased electricity and will also reduce the environmental impact of the port’s electricity-based operations.

Green electricity is available in three ways

Dhamra Port is not getting renewable electricity from a single source. For this, options like captive renewable power, third-party access and green power purchase have been used.

About 25-30 percent of renewable electricity is coming from APSEZ’s captive hybrid power plant in Khavda, Gujarat. At the same time, 10-15 percent electricity is being supplied through third-party access. The remaining electricity is being supplied through the green consumer arrangement made with the electricity distribution company of Odisha.

The daily work of the port will also be done with green power.

Now the 24-hour work of Dhamra Port is being done with renewable electricity. This includes loading-unloading of cargo, storage, rail related work and other important port facilities. Dhamra is located between Haldia and Paradip on the coast of Odisha. It is included in the major deep-draft ports of Eastern India.

Capacity of 60 MT, 48.8 MT cargo handled

The capacity of Dhamra Port is 60 million tonnes (MT). It handled 48.8 MT cargo in the financial year 2025-26. The port handles more than 48 MT of cargo every year. There are six dry-cargo berths. Apart from this, facilities like rapid-loading silos, wagon tipplers, track hoppers and mechanized storage yard are available.

The port has jetty equipment as well as excellent rail and road networks. Due to this strong connectivity, the movement of cargo to the mineral rich areas of Odisha, Jharkhand and West Bengal becomes much easier and faster.

Part of APSEZ’s net-zero strategy

This decision of Dhamra Port is an important part of the long-term net-zero strategy of Adani Ports (APSEZ). Nowadays, big industrial institutions and logistics companies are increasing their trust on green energy to reduce carbon emissions. According to APSEZ, this step taken with this thinking will make the port’s major operations more sustainable and better in the long run without harming the environment.
