Leadership has a new responsibility
This is why leadership matters more than ever. While many organizations are still focused on the technology, employees are looking for clarity. Why are we using AI? What does it mean for my job? What opportunities will it create? And what skills will I need to stay successful?
Without clear answers, uncertainty grows, especially when stories about automation and job losses are making headlines every day. Successful organizations therefore need to communicate about more than technology. They need to offer a clear view of the future: why change is needed, where new value can be created and what employees stand to gain.
The next phase of AI starts now
The first wave of AI was largely about experimentation. The next is about scaling and creating sustainable value. That requires a different approach: investing not only in technology, but also in skills, culture, leadership and organizational design. Because ultimately, technology does not determine how much value AI creates. People do.
What leaders need to do now
- Set a clear AI vision
Define not only how AI can improve processes, but also how it could reshape the future business model. - Make leadership accountable
AI adoption cannot be owned by IT or innovation teams alone. The business needs to take ownership. - Invest continuously in skills
Move beyond one-off training and build continuous learning programs based on hands-on experience. - Prepare the workforce for human-agent collaboration
Start developing scenarios for hybrid teams in which people work alongside AI agents. - Make change tangible
Translate strategy into what teams actually need to do differently in their day-to-day work. - Create room to experiment
New ways of working only emerge when employees have the time, support and guidance to learn, test and practice.
The biggest challenge is turning AI into scalable business value. That takes more than implementing new tools. It requires leadership, new skills and a fundamental rethink of how work gets done. Organizations that get this right will not only improve productivity, but also build lasting competitive advantage
