Guadalajara, Jal. A total of 112,801 companies and businesses that employ 820,000 people will be affected by the adjustments or “service rotation” that will be carried out by the Intermunicipal Drinking Water and Sewage System (SIAPA) derived from the crisis due to the poor quality of the water. water in the metropolitan area of Guadalajara.

According to an analysis prepared by the Employers’ Confederation of the Mexican Republic (Coparmex) Jalisco, this represents 57% of the economic units of Guadalajara, Zapopan, Tlaquepaque and Tonalá.

According to the analysis of the employers’ union, of that total, 110,923 are micro and small businesses, many of which represent a source of income for the families that operate them and for those who work in them.

Among the identified businesses are 14,110 in the restaurant and hotel sector, 6,694 beauty salons and hairdressers, and 992 laundries and dry cleaners, activities where the water supply is especially important to provide their services and maintain hygienic conditions.

The analysis also identifies that Saturdays and Wednesdays concentrate the largest number of businesses in areas with scheduled outages, with approximately 56,000 and 54,000, respectively, a situation particularly relevant for commercial and service activities that maintain a significant operation during the weekend.

For the employer body, the situation is particularly relevant if one considers that 86.2% of the decrease in employer registrations in Jalisco, between January and September 2026, corresponded to companies with between one and five employees, according to data from the IMSS.

“For this reason, we call for supply and care measures to comprehensively consider the needs of homes, work centers and essential services, considering the particular conditions of each activity. From Coparmex Jalisco we will make this analysis available to the authorities and we will seek to know the needs of our affiliated companies to provide information that contributes to care measures,” said the president of the organization, Luis Beas.

“Those who need water in their homes today are the same people who go out to work every day, who take their children to school and who support their families with great effort. The well-being of people must be at the center of every decision. We have a historic opportunity to build, through dialogue and shared responsibility, a long-term water plan that gives certainty to Guadalajara,” the business leader stressed.
