New Delhi:
Gold Silver Price Drop: Just before the festive season, the shine of gold and silver has faded. During Navratri, gold has become cheaper by Rs 3,000 and silver by more than Rs 10,000. Amidst the fall in gold and silver prices, the way Indian investors buy gold is also changing. Now instead of just buying jewellery, people are investing more money in gold ETFs and digital gold. In such a situation, if you are thinking of buying gold and silver in this festive season, then know how much the prices have reduced now and what advice the experts are giving.
Silver fell by Rs 10,000, 22 carat and 24 carat gold also became cheaper.
According to India Bullion Jewelers Association (IBJA),

- The price of 18 carat gold has come down to Rs 1,09,820 per 10 grams, which was earlier Rs 1,12,073 per 10 grams.
This week, along with gold, there has also been a decline in the price of silver. The price of silver has decreased by Rs 10,191 to Rs 2,10,918 per kg, which was earlier Rs 2,21,109 per kg.
Reason for fall in gold and silver prices
According to experts, the dollar is becoming expensive due to rising crude oil prices. Due to this, pressure on gold and silver prices is increasing. Amidst the fear of rising inflation, investors are also selling due to the possibility of increasing interest rates.
In January 2026, the price of gold had reached around Rs 1.75 lakh per 10 grams. After rising in August also, the domestic gold price fell by 4.6% till the 11th of September. Changing expectations regarding the interest rates of the US Federal Reserve were also the reason for this. Investors who bought gold at the high price in August may currently be in loss.
Investment increased in gold ETF instead of jewelery
In August, the price of gold in the domestic market increased by 12% to Rs 1,58,854 per 10 grams. During this period, the price of gold in the international market increased by 13% to $ 4,386 per ounce. This was one of the biggest monthly gains of gold in nearly three decades. Amidst this boom, investment in gold ETFs increased. There was a net investment of Rs 2,596.70 crore in Gold ETFs in August, whereas in July this amount was Rs 1,559 crore. This was the third consecutive month when money came into gold ETFs. The total assets of Gold ETFs in India reached around Rs 1.91 lakh crore, behind which was 121.3 tonnes of gold. So far this year, investments worth $4.22 billion have come in Indian Gold ETFs.
110% jump in digital gold
The average purchase of digital gold between June and August was Rs 2,500 crore per month. Its purchase in August increased by 110% compared to a year ago. The average daily turnover of gold futures on MCX also increased by 38% month-on-month to around Rs 29,500 crore. This was the highest level in five months. On the other hand, India’s gold import declined to $2.3 billion in August. This was 45% less than July and 58% less than a year ago. Till September 11, the domestic gold price was $78 per ounce less than the international price. One reason for this is the trend of giving away old jewelery and buying new jewellery.
What are experts saying about gold and silver?
Experts say that gold is a strong option to create balance in the portfolio, which helps investors in the ups and downs of the stock market. However, this should not be considered a means of increasing money overnight or quickly. The way of buying gold is changing for Indian investors and along with traditional jewellery, interest is increasing towards gold ETFs and other investment options. In such a situation, it is wise for investors to invest money in gold not just by seeing the market boom, but with the intention of balancing their total portfolio.
