Kelly Walsh swim team deserves their meet
Dear Casper,
The cancellation of the Kelly Walsh swim meet that was scheduled on the same day as the upcoming Oil Bowl is a direct violation of Title IX, an initiative created to protect and uplift female athletes.
The excuse being given to the athletes by the Kelly Walsh high school athletic director, John Sheaff, is that “it would take parking away from the football game” and “be too much for the school to be hosting at once.” This excuse is completely unfounded and unreasonable, as the Oil Bowl has been scheduled after swim meets annually for years.
Parking was never an issue for this “double-booking” before the new parking lot was built, and there is no real or logical reason that it should suddenly be enough for a cancellation now.
On Sept. 28, four girls from Kelly Walsh’s swim team attended the Natrona County school board meeting to publicly speak on the ordeal. They expressed all of the above in their testimony, adding that this meet was also scheduled to be, as it has been for years, “senior night,” a celebration of girls who are in the upcoming graduating class that are also a part of their team.
The Kelly Walsh girls’ swim team, as explicitly stated by Title IX, has every right to hold their swim meet on the same day as the football team, and given the ridiculous excuses and the cancellation, it is unprofessional of John Sheaff, disrespectful to the teams that planned on attending and to the Kelly Walsh swimming and diving team. It is an act of sexism towards the girls’ team. Ignoring these young women and future college athletes’ request to put the meet back on the schedule is unacceptable, sexist and completely unfair.
The girls’ swim team should not be placed under the men’s football team for any reason.

Republican delegation doesn’t lead
Dear Casper,
The Republican nominees for U.S. House and Senate, when President Donald Trump says jump, they won’t ask “How high?” They will head for the elevators and ask: “From what floor, sir?”
If we elect two Democrats instead, they would work hard to appease U.S. and keep their jobs. The Republican candidates don’t care what you think, they don’t care what you want and they don’t care what’s good for Wyoming. They take your votes for granted.
Wyoming free thyself!
