MAN’s faster second 100,000 TGE vans suggest its truck-derived body expertise is giving the van an edge in specialist fleets
MAN Truck & Bus built its 200,000th TGE van at Września, Poland, in early October 2026, ten years after the model’s public debut. Output has picked up sharply, with the second 100,000 units taking just over three years, about half the time needed for the first.
That first total was reached by summer 2023, more than six years after series production began in spring 2017. The TGE had been unveiled at the IAA Commercial Vehicles show in Hanover, since renamed IAA Transportation.
MAN credits much of the van’s spread across trades, construction, logistics, municipal fleets and premium motorhomes to body-building know-how drawn from its truck business. Conversions range from tippers, dropsides and box bodies to shelving, refrigerated and passenger versions.
Chassis cabs account for almost a third of output, 21% with a single cab and 8% with a double cab, and nearly one in three TGEs reaches its buyer with a body fitted. Panel vans make up the other 71%, while automatic gearboxes now hold a narrow lead over manuals at 53% to 47%.
The milestone vehicle, a rear-wheel-drive TGE 5.160 cowl with automatic transmission, has 1,264 parts and took around 52 hours to build. Candy White, Indium Grey Metallic and Reflex Silver Metallic rank as the most popular colours.
