Kigen Achieves Industry-First GSMA Certification for Automotive eSIM

Kigen, a global leader in embedded SIM and integrated SIM technology, has secured the industry’s first GSMA eUICC Security Assurance (eSA) certification for its new Automotive eSIM solution,on the first certified eSIM built to support the latest SGP.32 v1.3 IoT eSIM specification released in May 2026. The milestone, announced 29 September 2026, pairs Kigen’s own eSIM operating system with Infineon’s TEGRION™ SLI22 automotive security controller, delivering a standards-aligned, robust connectivity foundation designed to protect connected vehicles and fleets over service lives spanning a decade or more.

The certification represents more than a compliance checkpoint; it establishes a new baseline for connected mobility security. SGP.32 v1.3 introduces key enhancements, including direct and indirect profile downloads, digital activation codes, and dedicated emergency profile handling functionality, which is particularly critical for cars, two-wheelers, and commercial fleets where reliable connectivity can support safety-critical systems. By implementing these specifications early, Kigen gives original equipment manufacturers and Tier-1 suppliers an architecture built to remain current throughout long vehicle development and deployment cycles, reducing the risk of costly mid-program obsolescence.

The solution is built around a unified platform spanning three product lines, Automotive, Consumer, and Industrial IoT all sharing the same core operating system, development tooling, and remote management infrastructure. The Automotive variant uses the TEGRION™ SLI22 security chip, while the Consumer and Industrial IoT variants deploy the SLC22 and SLM22 devices respectively. This consistency allows automakers to deploy a single security and connectivity framework across infotainment, telematics, and dedicated control units, streamlining integration, lowering fragmentation, and enabling shared expertise across passenger, transport, and industrial vehicle programmes.

Looking ahead to evolving threats, Kigen has integrated post-quantum cryptography readiness into the platform even before such requirements become formalised in GSMA standards. Connected vehicles remain in service for many years, making hardware upgrades impractical once deployed; to future-proof these long-lived assets, Kigen has implemented hybrid key encapsulation combining classical and quantum-resistant algorithms. Original equipment manufacturers can already test end-to-end post-quantum secure communications using the company’s C-SDK development suite and pre-production eSIM samples, establishing resilience against emerging quantum-era threats.

The Automotive eSIM certification builds on Kigen’s earlier achievements, including eSA certification for IoT and consumer eSIMs and the industry’s first eSIM operating system secure update capability aligned with the European Union’s Cyber Resilience Act compliance that is increasingly essential for connected products entering global markets. Full assurance extends across the entire deployment lifecycle: GSMA SAS-UP certification covers secure manufacturing and provisioning, while SAS-SM certifies ongoing subscription management, supported by Kigen’s own eIM remote management platform. More than twenty mobile network operators are prepared to activate these devices digitally, and partnerships with global carriers, including China Mobile International simplify cross-border rollout for international fleets.

Industry leaders have recognised the significance of the advance. Vincent Korstanje, Kigen’s Chief Executive Officer, noted that vehicles are evolving into long-lived software platforms, making their connectivity trust anchor every bit as critical as their mechanical components; the new certified solution gives manufacturers a secure path from factory provisioning through years of global operation. Gloria Trujillo, eSIM Technical Director at the GSMA, highlighted Kigen’s active role in shaping the very standards it now implements, including through leadership of the GSMA eSIM Technical Working Group. Katherine Diao, Head of IoT and Automotive Industry at China Mobile International, confirmed her organisation’s collaboration to bring SGP.32-based security to Chinese automakers serving worldwide markets.

Sampling in the standard ETSI MFF2 package will begin in October 2026, coinciding with Kigen’s participation in the next round of GSMA interoperability testing. For automakers, fleet operators, and technology partners, the message is clear: the next generation of connected mobility is not just more capable it is built to stay secure, standardised, and interoperable well into the future.
