Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address at the ‘Bloomberg New Economy Forum’ organized in New Delhi was special in order to ensure that the world’s investors remain interested in the country’s economy. On this platform, the Prime Minister spoke on India’s economic situation, government policies and future growth strategy in front of international investors, policy makers and CEOs of global companies from all over the world.

The Prime Minister’s message was clear – economic reforms in India are not being done merely because of necessity, but it is the firm belief of the government. Amidst uncertainties, wars and supply chain related challenges in the global economy, India is presenting itself as a stable and reliable economic partner.

We have tried to understand which things were important from the investment point of view in this address of the Prime Minister.

India’s GDP growth strong

Describing India’s economic condition as strong, Prime Minister Modi mentioned the figures related to GDP growth and external economic front. India’s GDP growth during the first quarter of the current financial year i.e. April to June was 7.8%. Along with this, he also described the reduction in Current Account Deficit (CAD) and the country’s foreign exchange reserves as a sign of economic strength.

On the banking system he said that it is in a strong position. He also mentioned the sovereign rating, which indicates improvement in India’s economic and financial condition.

Current account deficit is an important measure to understand the status of foreign transactions of a country. The Prime Minister said that 12-13 years ago, India’s CAD used to be more than 4% of GDP, which came down to 0.61% last year.

These figures are important for investors because along with economic growth, the position of foreign payments and the strength of foreign exchange reserves also help in understanding the financial stability of a country.

PM Modi’s message regarding reforms

Prime Minister Modi said that economic reforms for India are not a compulsion, but a matter of strong faith. This means that the government sees reforms not just as a way to deal with a crisis, but as a means of strengthening the economy in the long run. He mentioned many major reforms.

Discussing important steps like GST Reform, Insolvency Law, Labor Code and decriminalization of small business crimes, he said that the purpose of such steps is to reduce unnecessary legal pressure on businessmen and to improve the business environment.

Through these reforms, he gave the message that emphasis is being laid on making business easier in India, simplifying rules and creating a favorable environment for long-term investment.

Put forward the vision of ‘Power to Empower’

Prime Minister Modi described technology, data, knowledge and innovation as new sources of power in the 21st century. According to him, the real question is not just who has the power, but how it is being used. He linked this thinking with the vision of ‘Power to Empower’ i.e. empowering others.

The affordability of mobile data in India, expansion of digital services and digital public infrastructure are important examples of this thinking. Affordable internet has made it easier for students in small cities and towns to access digital education and online information.

Similarly, UPI has played an important role in taking digital payments to the common people and businesses. The Indian experience of making identity, payment and other digital services available on a large scale through digital public infrastructure has also been a topic of discussion for many countries of the world.

The Prime Minister said that India is sharing the experiences of its digital ecosystem with the Global South and other partner countries.

From the point of view of investors, its importance is not limited to technology only. Digital services can also impact the cost of doing business, financial inclusion, access to services and new business opportunities.

What is India’s message to global investors?

A major aspect of the Prime Minister’s address was the emphasis on trust and stability amid global uncertainties. In the world today, issues related to supply chain, energy and technology influence business and investment decisions. In such an environment, investors do not just look at the market size or economic growth rate, but also give importance to the continuity of policies, regulatory system and business environment.

The Prime Minister presented India as a stable and reliable partner. His message was that India believes in moving forward with the world and for the world. The mention of the country’s economic growth, foreign exchange reserves, banking system and reforms was part of this broader message. Through this, investors were told that along with development, the country is also paying attention to institutional and policy strength.

However, actual investment decisions are not based solely on any speech or government message. Investors also assess companies’ earnings, market demand, implementation of policies, risks and potential returns.

Prime Minister Modi’s address at the Bloomberg New Economy Forum revolved around four key messages – strong economic growth, continuous reforms, empowering people through technology and India’s role as a trusted partner globally.

In his address, PM Modi wanted to convey the message that India has presented itself not just as a fast-growing economy, but as a country with emphasis on reforms, digital development and global partnership.
