The Ministry of Education (Minedu) will carry out this Friday, October 9, the recovery of 4,900 square meters of the north and west esplanades of the Melgar stadium, in Arequipa. The measure also includes the toilets located at doors 1, 2, 5 and 6 of the facility.
According to Minedu, these spaces remained occupied for four years by Ricardo Guillermo del Carpio. Fairs, a garage, a gym and a vehicle washing business operated there, which restricted the use of these areas by athletes and citizens.
The procedure will have the presence of the Vice Minister of Institutional Management, José Alemán Nakamine, and the support of police officers to guarantee the development of the procedure.
Why will the Melgar stadium areas be recovered?
The conflict began in November 2022, when the Arequipa Regional Sports Council, attached to the Peruvian Sports Institute (IPD), signed a temporary lease contract with Del Carpio to use the esplanades and toilets during an event.
The agreement was valid from November 28, 2022 to January 15, 2023. However, when the deadline expired, the occupant did not return the spaces.
Given this situation, the IPD requested the return through letters sent on January 16 and 23, 2023, in addition to a notarized letter dated February 6 of the same year. According to the information provided, the requirements were not met and the spaces continued to be occupied, even to hold fairs for Christmas and All Saints’ Day.
The case led to an eviction lawsuit due to precarious occupation to recover the exterior areas of the stadium.
