Global Finance named the World’s Safest Banks 2026 on October 6, 2026 — marking the 35th consecutive year the publication has ranked the world’s most financially secure banks. The ranking is a trusted benchmark used by corporate treasurers, institutional investors, and financial institutions to evaluate counterparty strength and long-term stability.

2026 RANKINGS
METHODOLOGY
Global Finance ranks the World’s Safest Banks using long-term foreign currency credit ratings assigned by the three major international rating agencies — Moody’s, Standard & Poor’s (S&P), and Fitch Ratings. Key criteria include:
Rating sources: Only long-term foreign currency ratings from Moody’s, S&P, and Fitch are used. National scale ratings are excluded.
Eligibility: Banks must rank among the 500 largest in the world by total assets that hold at least two credit agency ratings.
Objectivity: Drawing from all three agencies ensures results are consistent and comparable across countries and regions.
Data: All ratings used in the 2026 rankings are current as of August 27, 2026.
