Lufthansa Group and Air India will suspend flights to Riyadh, they said on Thursday, as Yemen’s Houthis claimed an attack on the Saudi capital’s airport.
A Lufthansa spokesperson said the German airline group would suspend flights to Riyadh until 16 October because of “current developments in the Middle East”.
Air India said it had cancelled all flights to the Saudi capital until 10 October.
The Houthis said earlier on Thursday they had struck Riyadh airport and warned workers to stay away from energy plants. Witnesses saw smoke billowing from a plane at the airport.
Saudi officials said that debris from an intercepted missile had hit a kindergarten and medical complex in the capital, and that there was “material damage”.
