Columbia’s city council will hear a detailed presentation at Monday afternoon’s pre-meeting about downtown public safety.
The 22-page presentation involves downtown Columbia crime trends and enforcement strategies.
The report says while crime overall in the city has decreased about two percent in the last year, it’s increased downtown about 48 percent. Violent crime in downtown Columbias has dropped from 22 to 21 in the past year, a 4.5 percent decrease. Violent crime is defined as homicide, rape, robbery and aggravated assaults. Property crime downtown has seen a 25 percent decrease according to the presentation, from 106 to 79.

Today’s pre-council meeting begins at 4:30 at city hall and is open to the public.
